Introduction to Cahaba Proud

Stories

My vision is for stories to be the heart of Cahaba Proud- a place where memories can be shared among those who love the Cahaba River.
Stories may be submitted via email by clicking on the Submit tap at the top of the page. I will read, and if necessary, edit the stories; communicating with the author if any significant changes are needed. The story will then be placed on the website (and categorized). I will include a tagline with the author’s first and last names, unless requested to do otherwise. When you are on the story page, you may access the Categories by clicking on the book icon at top right.
Two considerations:
Do not mention names of individuals unless you have specific permission to do so.
I will not be verifying facts or statements presented.

Videos/Media

The main purpose for posting my videos is to let people see some of the geographic variety of the Cahaba as it flows from the foothills of the Appalachians to the coastal plain. The videos are arranged in order from the northern-most section I have canoed, to the Cahaba's southern run into the Alabama River. Centreville marks the fall line- everything south of that area is flat water.

There are some things in the videos which may need explanation:
One of the videos shows what seems like erratic behavior by me-
(frequently looking behind or to the sides). For the purpose of this Introduction, I will just say that I am defending my canoe (see “The Game”, under Stories, for the full explanation).
Why is there an orange 5-gallon bucket in my canoe? When I am paddling solo, putting water in the bucket is an easy way to add weight to the bow so that the canoe floats level from bow to stern. This allows the canoe to respond appropriately to my paddle strokes and limits the effect of cross winds on the bow.
